PAGES FOR FREEDOM: Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership (COIPP)
A small portion of the books we donated in December!
In December, the Student Justice Alliance partnered with the Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership (COIPP) in Frederick County for a powerful initiative: a community book drive dedicated to promoting education, healing, and connection.
Together, we collected and donated over 100 books to support children and families affected by incarceration. From picture books to young adult novels, each title was chosen with care to comfort, inspire, and spark imagination in young readers facing unimaginable challenges.COIPP has long been a lifeline for children with incarcerated parents, providing essential resources and emotional support. We were honored to work with their team, whose compassion and dedication show the real impact that grassroots partnerships can have.
Sally Selby, the COIPP program manager, told us, “You truly wouldn’t know how much these books mean to this community.” We can’t begin to comprehend the true impact these books would have on youth, but we do understand that books are for more than just reading. Stories open minds, strengthen communities, and affirm dignity.
This is just one out of the many initiatives we’ve taken to provide educational and literary resources to communities that lack equal access to them. Over the past year, the Student Justice Alliance has provided 11 different Chapter Corners across Maryland to place over 500 books in circulation.
