Legislation

The Student Justice Alliance has several legislative priorities pertaining to ensuring equal access to justice. Read about our actions on them below.

CIRCUIT Court Diversity

We’re introducing a bill via Del. Chao Wu to collect and publish demographic data on Maryland’s judicial applicants, candidates, nominees, appointees, judges, and justices.

We’re fueled by the promise that diversity makes for a better judiciary, and that Maryland deserves to represented in its courts.

Second Look Act (HB853/SB291)

We joined the Maryland Second Look Coalition to pass the Maryland Second Look Act in the 2025 Legislative Session. We mobilized youth in grassroots letter-writing campaigns all across Maryland to flip votes in the General Assembly.

We believe that the justice system doesn’t have to choose between justice or empathy— we can choose both.
